This is the masthead for NME it is using a sans-serif style font this then makes the logo look modern as well as informal, it is bold which makes it more eye catching. The colours used are a bright red which is white stroke, these colours stand out compared to the black stroke as the colours are opposites, therefore drawing the readers to look at it. A drop shadow effect is used in order to make the letters stand out further, the letters are capitalised and uniform fill in order to be eye catching and create a simple but effective brand.

This is the masthead for Rolling Stone, it uses a serif style font in order to make it look formal and professional, therefore making it seem like the same applies to the magazine and looks like the magazine takes its genre of music seriously. The font of the masthead has a white stroke surrounding it making the colour of the fill uniform look more prominent and therefore more noticeable. The drop shadow that is used make the name look more three dimensional, by doing this it means that the title will always stand out from the rest of the magazine cover even if it is partially behind a picture.

This is the masthead for Kerrang, throughout the white letters there are straight black lines which is the same colour as the background. The use of these give the impression that the title has been cracked or shattered, this lives up to the stereotype of the genre that the magazine tends to as it is typically perceived that rock bands music shatters speakers and their instruments. The colour of the masthead contrasts to the background in order to make it stand out further to the reader.

The masthead for Music Crowns is eye catching and unique, this masthead is different compared to the others as it uses the image of a crown in replacement of the letter w. This makes the masthead more memorable as the image fits in with both the writing and what the word itself is, this is beneficial as it makes it more likely for the audience to buy the magazine as it easily recognises the brand. The black stroke which surrounds the white sans-serif letters, gives the appearance that the stroke has been splattered like paint, this therefore means that the masthead stands out more if it was on a bright background as it is such contrasting colours which takes up such a larger area.

The masthead for Billboard uses a simple black bold sans-serif font, this creates a simple but effective masthead as it gives the impression that the magazine is informal. This style makes the magazine look more relaxed and attractive to its target audience that it aims at. The brand uses simple fill uniform colours inside the letters in order to create and iconic brand that the audience would be able to spot and recognise with ease. This masthead would be able to stand out against a lighter and darker backgrounds as it contains both light and dark elements, therefore meaning that is suitable with most magazine covers making it effective.
